Join us on Friday, October 16 for the showing of the 20th Century Fox Animation production of "The Book of Life."  Click on the calendar link for more information.

This movie is rated PG and is perfect for the whole family.  See the description below:

"In the Mexican town of San Angel, Manolo (Diego Luna), Maria (ZoĆ« Saldana) and Joaquin (Channing Tatum) have been friends ever since childhood. Although their lives have taken different paths -- Maria was sent to Europe, Joaquin joined the military, and Manolo studied to become a bullfighter -- one thing remains the same: Manolo and Joaquin both want to marry Maria. Little does the trio know that battling husband-and-wife deities have made a high-stakes wager on the love triangle's outcome." (imbd)

Beginning in October 2015, one weekend a month is rental-free.  This means that the clubhouse is open for members to enjoy from 7am-10pm each day.  This includes the use of the large and small halls and the swimming pools.  Please check the calendar for dates.

  • Saturday, September 05, 2015 8:47 PM | Anonymous member (Administrator)

Effective September 3, 2015, the new rate for Member Rentals will be $125.  This rate does not include the use of the small hall.  An additional $50 will be charged if you wish to use the small hall.  (Non-Member rentals will be $600 for use of the large hall only)

The reason for this increase is to offset the cost of not having a rental each month.  We have blocked off one weekend each month so that Members and their families can use the clubhouse (pool, large and small hall, games, etc.).  Please check our calendar for upcoming "Clubhouse open for members" dates.

Our rates have not increased over the years, and we want to continue to provide Members with a low-cost rental as well as a place to make family and community memories.  We hope you enjoy all the new additions and amenities to the clubhouse and make it a place that we all take care of.

In the next few weeks white and iceberg pink roses will be planted in the retaining wall by our partner and neighbor Garibaldo's Nursery. This will enhance the aesthetics of the clubhouse property and add a little bit of security from people who may try to hop over the wall.

Garibaldo's will also begin removing the current landscaping in the front planters of the clubhouse to make room for the new landscape design. This removal make be done in two stages: initial cutting down of the shrubbery, and finally removal of any stumps/roots left behind.

For those of you who rent the Cluhouse, or if you are already inside of the Clubhouse with your Access Card, now you and/or your guests can signal you to open the door for them by using the new Doorbell that has be installed on the wall near the LGCA mailbox outside.

The Doorbell will chime loudly in the main hall so that you will know if your family member(s) and/or guests need to be let into the Clubhouse.

Please don't let anyone in who you don't know. They may not even be members. All members should bring their Access Card with them to the clubhouse.

The Doorbell is only for our Members whose family is already inside of the clubhouse with their household's Access Card. Or for Renters needing to let their guests into the Event.

Our new entrance doors have been installed and members can now pick up their access control key cards.

Please note: DO NOT loan your cards to family, friends or neighbors! Your access control card is for your household use only. Non-member Lakewood Gardens residents are encouraged to become members themselves and will be issued their own access card when they join.

We are able to monitor who has used their card and don't want to discover a non-member borrowing your card to enter the clubhouse.

We have waited too many years to be able to break away from having to ask board member for a key into the clubhouse, so don't jeopardize your access by loaning your card out. Your access card may be suspended if you do so, and you will have to ask for access from a board member again. It's just not worth it.

Thanks for your understanding and support.

This afternoon kicks off the retaining wall project that will be built along the Lakewood Blvd section on the other side of the clubhouse pool wall. This retaining  wall is needed to stop the erosion of dirt that occurs after each rainfall and will beautify the environment around the clubhouse.

Volunteers from Lakewood Gardens and Lakewood Aquatics will meet at 4pm at the clubhouse to begin mapping out the wall location and start digging the trench to form the base layer. This project will be supervised and directed by Joe Martinez (father of long-time LGCA member Chris Martinez.)

Once the first layer is leveled, the interlocking retaining wall blocks can be stacked. As an additional security measure, we will be applying "thinset" between each block so that they cannot be removed after installation.

After construction is completed, dirt will be added to fill in the low places. Then the landscape design will take place along with a drip irrigation layout. We plan on planting California Native plants that are drought-resistant and will need to be watered for only the first two years, since they will be established by then and will no longer need to be watered. This will help our environment and keep water usage down.

Our partner & neighbor, Garibaldo's Nursery, will supply, install the plants and maintain the landscaping in the planter.

Many thanks to our partners for making this project happen: Joe Martinez, John Moore (Lakewood Aquatics) and Garibaldo's Nursery!
